Children’s Lamp-Making Workshop: A Creative Family Activity
Join us for a family-focused lamp-making workshop where children can explore their creativity while learning hands-on woodworking and design skills. Led by myself and my wife, Becky Crawford, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for children to create their very own handcrafted lamp.
What to Expect in the Lamp-Making Workshop
In this interactive, creative workshop, children will:
Design and paint their own lampshade using wax-resist pastels and high-quality watercolour paints, allowing each child to personalize their creation.
Learn the basics of woodworking with hand tools in a safe, supervised environment. Starting with a simple stem, they will use traditional tools like the drawknife and spokeshave to shape and taper the lamp stem.
Refine their project, mount the stem, and get an introduction to basic electrical wiring, completing the lamp assembly.
By the end of the workshop, every child will have their very own custom-made lamp to brighten their room, while developing new skills and a sense of accomplishment.
Details of the Workshop
Duration: Half-day course
Minimum age: 8 years old
Maximum children per adult: 2
Adult participation: Parents or guardians must accompany children. Adults are also welcome to make their own lamp if they feel confident in supervising their child.
This workshop provides a great bonding opportunity and is perfect for families who want to create lasting memories together while exploring the world of craftsmanship and creativity.
