Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making
Join us for a two-day immersive course in green woodworking, where you’ll learn traditional hand-tool techniques with a focus on contemporary design and fine detailing. With a maximum of 8 students, you'll receive hands-on guidance in a relaxed and inspiring setting—my fully equipped, heated workshop just a short stroll from the sea.
Over the course of the weekend, you’ll craft either a low stool or a side table, starting with a freshly cut log. You’ll learn how to cleave wood using a froe and wedges, then refine each piece on the shave horse using a drawknife and spokeshave. We’ll cover essential joinery techniques, including through wedged mortice and tenon joints, and explore the use of contrasting timbers, sculpted seats, and free-form tabletops to create a truly unique piece.
This green woodworking course is suitable for complete beginners, enthusiastic hobbyists, and experienced traditional woodworkers alike. You’ll discover how working with unseasoned timber and specialist tools opens up a new world of creative possibility. All materials are locally and sustainably sourced.
Course dates can be found on our course calendar, and all sessions take place in our beautiful workshop by the coast. Click here for some options of places to stay locally. Click here to see reviews of this course.
