A series of sculptural outdoor seats made from locally sourced sweet chestnut, inspired by the woodland, and using many of the same green woodworking techniques that underpin my furniture.
The uprights are cleaved from whole logs while the timber is still green, then shaped by hand, following the natural grain and movement of the tree. Rather than forcing the timber into a predetermined form, each piece develops its own gentle sweep and character.
The seats are fitted around the uprights with simple timber joints and discreet stainless-steel fixings. Their small footprint and tall, tapering forms give them an almost plant-like quality, allowing them to sit naturally within a garden or landscape.
They can be made individually or as a group, with varying heights and proportions to suit a particular site.
