Our wooden lampshades are available in a range of sizes and can be used as either pendant or table lamps. Other sizes up to 70cm diameter can be supplied - please contact us if you have a particular requirement which is not listed. Scroll to the bottom to see our standard heights for a given diameter. The seams on the larger shades are beautifully hand-stitched.
Ash produces a warm golden light which is quite bright and gentle. It highlights the natural wood’s subtle grain and spreads light softly across a space. Ideal if you want a warm but still light and airy glow. Ash gives the most luminous and neutral warm light. It brightens a space without feeling heavy. Excellent when you want warmth without reducing brightness. Best for living rooms, kitchens, workspaces or desks. Cherry is slightly richer in tone than ash. It gives off an even warmer, reddish hued light that feels very cosy and atmospheric. Great if you want mood lighting that is gentle and inviting, with a hint of amber. Cherry adds an amber tint that feels intimate and soothing. Its warmer and moodier than ash but still lets through a healthy amount of light. Best for dining rooms, bedrooms, or reading corners. Oak has a deeper more robust wood tone. It filters light into a deep, chocolatey, sophisticated glow, which is richer and less bright than ash or cherry. Perfect for creating a more intimate or refined ambiance. Oak produces a deeper, more luxurious warmth. Its less bright, more atmospheric. Excellent where you want a sense of presence and richness. Best for dining spaces hallways and living rooms. Walnut is the darkest of the four woods. It allows less light to pass through, resulting in a moody, subdued feel rather than bright illumination. Excellent for spaces where you want indirect, ambient lighting or a relaxed atmosphere. Walnut passes the least light through its veneer, creating a dramatic, low glow effect. This not task lighting, it’s pure mood. Beautiful for atmosphere, but won’t illuminate a whole room by itself. Best for bedrooms, lounges, living rooms, restaurants or cosy dining set ups.
The shades are made from very thin real wood veneer bonded to a backing that permits light to filter through the grain. This means the wood species directly affects both the colour tone and intensity of the light. Unlike opaque lampshades that simply diffuse light without colouring it. (Please enquire for prices on any sizes not listed.)
As a rule, sizes of 25cm and above are wrapped with the grain horizontal, as in the first picture. Smaller sizes are wrapped with vertical grain.
