We’ve recently completed several commissions for custom-built bookshelves in Devon, and one in particular stood out as a truly special project.
A returning customer approached us with a lovely request. Their daughter was getting married, and the bride and groom had asked their guests to gift them books they thought the couple would enjoy — a beautiful and meaningful idea. To house this growing collection, the parents commissioned a set of bespoke wooden bookshelves.
It’s always an honour to be trusted with work like this, especially for genuinely lovely people who value the craftsmanship and natural aesthetic of our work.
Live Edge Shelving with Traditional Joinery
Our clients appreciate the organic feel of live edge furniture, so we designed these bookshelves to retain the natural edge of the timber. We developed a unique jointing technique that not only preserves the live edge but also notches the shelf ends into the bookcase sides. This adds strength and rigidity while showcasing beautiful tactile end-grain details.
The shelves were handcrafted from Devon quarter-sawn oak and locally harvested ash, which we planked ourselves — ensuring a sustainable and locally sourced final product.
